Why NOT
AT&T's 7 cents per minute offer
?

You've seen it on TV...
AT&T just launched its new 7 cent interstate plan. The plan carries a hefty $5.95 monthly fee plus taxes before you make a call... unless you also want to make international calls. Then you can add another dollar for the privilege.

Is it just a coincidence that they do not list the intrastate rates on their web site? Here is their ambiguous statement:

"Rates vary for in-state long distance and local toll calls from home. For all other types of calls, standard rates and charges apply. These rates vary by type of call and by state".

For the average caller with 200 or so minutes (actually average use is less than 200 minutes per month) AT&T's $5.95 monthly fee adds 3¢ to the base rate PLUS whole minute billing adds 10-15% PLUS higher intrastate rates. So bottom line of the "7 cent anytime" program is really 7¢ + 3¢ or 10+¢ per minute AND higher intrastate rates!

They do offer a slightly lower monthly fee of $4.95 if you sign up for local toll service as well. However, when checking their local toll service for a few areas it was extremely high compared to most companies.

Why PNG?
Our verdict is that for the vast majority of residential, home/office and small business customers... our program of 5.9 cents per minute (anytime) with 6-second billing will result in significantly lower overall monthly long distance bills when compared to the AT&T 7¢ program. And you can get a toll-free number at the same rate with no monthly fee and no monthly minimum.
